Wimmera Health Care Group wants to improve cancer treatment options for the people of Wimmera and Southern-Mallee, in turn improving our poor five year survival rate for the disease.
That is why Rachael’s Wish, the Wimmera Cancer Centre Fundraising Appeal, was launched. The appeal was named in honour of local cancer survivor Rachael Littore and her public push to get a new facility for the region. Rachael’s Wish aims to raise a minimum $1 million from the community to go towards the centre which will incorporate oncology, dialysis and community-based palliative care services for the entire region. The current oncology unit has six treatment chairs and two beds, meaning many people cannot seek treatment locally and are forced to travel, or choose not to seek treatment at all. The Federal Government has already contributed $1 million towards the project, announced when Prime Minister Tony Abbott visited the health care group in March.
If you would like to contribute to Rachael’s Wish, you can donate via www.whcg.org.au or drop a donation in to Wimmera Health Care Group in Baillie Street, Horsham.
